TonyaFor the month of June, we interviewed Tonya Stende, a franchise owner of Dale Carnegie North Dakota who started out as an auditor and CPA.

How long have you been with Dale Carnegie Training?  

Since the very beginning, and it has been an unbelievably exciting, rewarding and enjoyable ride. We were supposed to deliver our first program to start on September 11, 2001.  This is a day that our country will never forget. It is also a day professionally I will never forget, as it was the start of the amazing journey we are on today.

I was honored to be given the opportunity to lead the Dale Carnegie franchise for Eide Bailly. Prior to joining Dale Carnegie, I was a CPA and auditor for Eide Bailly, and while I loved my clients – the numbers game was not my passion. People are my passion, so I was so fortunate to be able to change careers and align my passion with what I do for a career. I was then blessed to find an amazing business partner, Tamara Anderson. We became partners with Eide Bailly in 2006 and purchased the entire franchise in 2012.

What industry do you work with the most?

I work with clients across multiple industries. Recently my focus has been in multi-media organizations, professional service firms, banking, and healthcare.

Are there any current industry trends that are different, changing or exciting?

Lately my focus has been on helping organizations improve their culture through increasing the engagement of their employees. While this has been a trend for some time, it hasn’t been until recently where we are measuring engagement for organizations and creating teams with action plans to improve culture and engagement.  It really starts at the top with developing their leaders.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Dale Carnegie Training?  

The clients we have the opportunity to work with every day and watching the results their organization and team achieve when working with us.

We also have an amazing team that is committed not only to our clients but to each other. It is not often you find a team that has such passion and commitment for what they do each and every day. I come to work every day and truly it is not a job or career – it is a family. When you get to do what you love and love what you do – life is good!

Passionate, caring, fun-lover.

What’s one fun, interesting fact about you?

When I retire one day I want to open a coffee and wine bar in a warm, non-humid climate. I will only be open a couple hours a day. This way I will get my interacting with people fix as well as starting my day with a great coffee and ending with wine. Does it get any better than that?
