Welcome to our Spotlight Series featuring interviews with instructors, trainers and staff members of Dale Carnegie Training of North Dakota.
This month, our featured interview is with Michelle Wall, an Area Manager who works largely within the energy industry.
What industry do you work with the most?
Recently, I’ve been working frequently with the oil and gas industry clients. Historically, we do a fair amount of business in manufacturing, agriculture, and professional services.
Are there any current industry trends that are different, changing or exciting?
It’s very exciting that a lot of work is being done in the areas of leadership development, employee engagement, and succession planning. North Dakota has a fantastic story – it’s a growing state with a vibrant economy in the 2 largest industries (energy and agriculture), and they really feed all of the business that goes on here in North Dakota in a variety of different industries. A lot of work is being done as we partner with clients that work in the big macro trend areas – developing leaders at all levels, building organizational culture, and laying the groundwork for top performers to take the helm of teams and organizations.
What have been some of your favorite or best results within a particular industry in the franchise?
In the energy industry, with rapid growth we’re seeing, our ability to build bench-strength by fast tracking supervisors and managers is outstanding, and we’re getting a tremendous amount of positive feedback from clients. Years ago, it used to take 10-20 years to learn how to be a leader, and now because of growth, we’re moving them along at a much faster rate. Dale Carnegie Training has the profound ability to lead change, move teams, and strengthen employee retention and do it within a year or two.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Dale Carnegie Training?
I get to work with people who are absolutely exceptional in what they do in a variety of industries. That is inspiring, energizing and humbling all at the same time. We work with people at the top of their game and companies. We work with people who are top performers and we seem to attract those types of clients. This is fascinating and what gets me going day in and day out.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Passionate, driven, engaging.
What’s one fun, interesting fact about you?
I was born on St. Patrick’s Day – March 17. I’m not Irish, but I’ve adopted the holiday and the Irish traditions even though I’m German from Russia with a little bit of Norwegian for flavor. I was born on a celebration, so it’s an extra special day – everybody celebrates with me!
